Job Description

This position reports directly to the HR Director – Operations and partners closely with the Service Center Manager and management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering organizational Human Resources initiatives that support business objectives and strategies for the Red Deer Service Center.

The HR Generalist will oversee all aspects of administration, including employee counseling, insurance coordination, recruiting, Employee Assistance programs, tuition aid, and time entry. They will also manage and track new hire performance reviews and ensure compliance with federal and provincial laws.

This role involves interacting with all employees, corporate departments, and potential job candidates. As such, strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Labor and Employee Relations:
    • Directly responsible for dealing with the local union as the first point of contact for employee relations issues.
    • Investigates complaints regarding grievances and breaches of company policies, summarizes facts for presentation to upper management, and makes recommendations on the appropriate course of action.
    • Promotes positive employee relations company-wide by ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all employees.
  • Talent and Performance Management/Organizational Development:
    • Develops and manages programs that ensure professional development across the organization.
    • Develops initiatives to promote employee engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and supports company-wide initiatives.
    • Manages the hiring process by creating job postings, reviewing resumes and applications, performing telephone interviews, and coordinating other interviews.
    • Partners with the Service Center Manager, hiring managers, and Talent, Learning & Development to manage the new hire onboarding process.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Oversees all aspects of administration for employees, including employee counseling, insurance coordination, recruiting, Employee Assistance programs, tuition aid, and time entry.
    • Manages and tracks completion of new hire performance reviews.
Requirements

We are looking for an experienced HR Generalist with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Organizational Behavior/Human Resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 5 years' human resource generalist experience is required, preferably in a unionized facility, particularly in manufacturing or related industries.

A strong computer skills background, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with applicant tracking systems would be beneficial. Knowledge of Canadian labor laws and regulations is essential.

Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, conflict management, negotiation, customer service orientation, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and establish rapport with department and organizational leadership is crucial. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently, are necessary.

This role requires a proactive approach to resolving conflicts and managing relationships with employees, management, and external parties. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting is desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is approximately $80,000 to $110,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include comprehensive health insurance, pension plan participation, Employee Assistance Program access, and training opportunities.
