Westerner Park is a premier agricultural society and exposition association seeking an experienced Strategic Human Resources Leader to join its team.

About the Role

This key position oversees employee relations, talent management, and HR administration while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Reporting directly to the Manager, Corporate Services, the successful candidate will play a critical role in aligning HR strategies with business goals.

Main Responsibilities
  • Strategic HR Partnership:
    • Collaborate with the Business Services Specialist to analyze workforce metrics and trends, informing decision-making and enhancing overall HR effectiveness.
    • Support the development of HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the organization's overall business strategy.
  • Policy and Compliance:
    • Maintain organizational guidelines by preparing, updating, and communicating human resource policies and procedures.
    • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable federal and provincial requirements.
    • Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
  • Talent Management:
    • Oversee the full employment life cycle, from recruitment to career development.
    • Design and implement talent development initiatives aligned with organizational goals, develop and maintain succession plans for key roles, and monitor the effectiveness of talent management strategies.
  • Performance and Training Management:
    • Oversee the performance management process and system, establishing clear expectations and evaluation processes.
    • Address underperformance through tailored improvement plans and continuous monitoring.
    • Track and approve employee training, maintain records, and assist in identifying training needs.
    • Oversee employee benefits, including health and dental insurance, retirement plans, leave management, and perks.
    • Manage work-related (WCB) and non-work related (STD & LTD) claims.
  • HR Administration and Volunteer Program:
    • Manage the HRIS and Volunteer Databases.
    • Provide regular HR reports to Management as requested.
    • Provide basic HR Administration duties.
    • Oversee the Volunteer Program planning and strategy.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess 3-4 years of progressive human resources experience, including 1-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in Human Resources. A certificate or diploma in human resources management is preferred, and a CPHR designation is considered an asset. Experience with investigations training, compensation planning, union environments, benefits planning, and HRIS software is also desirable.
