Job Summary

This is a key position that plays a pivotal role in acquiring, developing, and retaining top talent within the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources, including labor relations, policy development, performance management, training, and recruitment.

Responsibilities
  • Directly manage labor relations with the local union, serving as the first point of contact for employee relations issues. This includes problem-solving, supporting local management with written grievances, counseling staff and supervisors on labor-related matters, and directing investigations into complaints regarding breaches of company policies.
  • Promote positive employee relations across the organization, ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all employees. Administer provisions of company policies and guidelines, counseling management to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the separation process, including conducting exit interviews to determine the underlying reasons for termination of employment, drafting separation letters, and ensuring communication of final pay/final work data to other HR/Operations functions.
  • Develop and manage programs to ensure professional development of employees across the organization, promoting employee engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and supporting company-wide initiatives.
  • Partner with the Service Center Manager, hiring managers, and Talent, Learning & Development to manage the new hire onboarding process, facilitating learning paths and providing ongoing performance management support and guidance.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Organizational Behavior/Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Human Resource generalist experience, preferably in a unionized facility within the manufacturing or related industry.
  • HR Certification a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and experience with applicant tracking systems.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $80,000-$110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. GATX offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) plan, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
