The role of the Office of Legislative Counsel is to assist government in meeting its legislative objectives. The Office drafts all government Bills and all regulations, provides advice to government on statutory interpretation, and has custody of all regulations and orders in council. The Office also revises the statutes and regulations, tracks and records their history, and provides information on them to government and to members of the public. Furthermore, the Office is responsible for all official publications of the statutes and regulations.

In this position, you will:

- Assist in the management of assigned counsels’ practices and of other Office managers’ programs;
- Exercise independent judgment as necessary on a variety of legislative, legal and administrative matters to achieve applicable goals and desired outcomes;
- Review and draft office, legislative and legal documentation, independently and under supervision, as appropriate, and maintain records and files;
- Be the first point of contact for the Chief Legislative Counsel. Maintain CLC’s calendar, which includes scheduling meetings, booking meeting rooms, preparing appropriate materials, and briefing the Chief Legislative Counsel on meeting topics, issues and background;
- Manage correspondence, with mínimal supervision, on behalf of the Chief Legislative Counsel and other Office managers;
- Provide backup assistance for Legislative Program/Office Assistant;
- Provide a wide range of administrative and support services to the Chief Legislative Counsel and other Office managers, including proofreading various documents, using your skills and office style guidelines to identify errors or escalate more complex matters to respective department managers.

You will bring to this job:

- excellent organizational, planning and time management skills;
- the ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy and discretion, particularly in regards to confidential matters;

**Job Requirements**:

- At least two years’ administrative support/clerical experience or combination of experience and education or training.
- Experience proofreading and checking the accuracy of documents prepared by other professionals.

**Preference may be given to applicants who have the following**:

- One year of experience in a formal legal office environment;
