The Planning, Budget & Finance Office provides strategic and operational advice on the financial and budget management of the Faculty, as well as internal institutional and Faculty research data and business support services to all of the Faculty’s units. The Office models, plans, and implements the Faculty’s operating budget and provides Faculty-wide support and advice on the management of research, restricted and trust funds; financial analyses and forecasting; strategic planning and budget analysis; policy compliance and develops and delivers finance and business training seminars for A&S academic administrators and administrative staff.

**Your opportunity**:
The role reports to the Supervisor of Business and Accounting Services, and functions as an integral part of the Budget, Planning & Finance Office’s Business Services team. The Payroll & Accounting Administrator provides backup payroll and accounting processing support and training to academic units clients within the Faculty of Arts & Science when they are short staffed.

The incumbent works with a high degree of accuracy and ensures the bi-weekly and monthly payroll deadlines are met, and all payments to individuals are made in compliance with the University of Toronto’s payroll policies and the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) policies and guidelines. The incumbent ensures all payable transactions are processed according according to the University Guide to Financial Management.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Acting as the first point of contact for payroll and/or purchasing related enquiries
- Processing payroll and accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
- Troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies
- Reconciling purchasing card statements
- Verifying that supporting documentation is attached to financial records before processing in FIS
- Generating standard financial reports
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

**Essential Qualifications**:

- A three-year advanced College Diploma in business with concentration in accounting, payroll and auditing, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years’ of recent and related payroll experience within a complex organization preferably in a post-secondary or research-intensive institution.
- Experience using SAP to process bi-weekly and monthly payroll and administer attendance.
- Experience administering provisions of collective agreements, and Academic/PM/Confidential terms and conditions of employment.
- Experience with generating statistical reports from HRIS.
- Experience with maintaining and updating employee records.
- Experience with providing guidance on payroll administration to clients.
- Experience with reconciling payroll accounts.
- Experience working with payroll and Canadian Revenue Agency policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, SharePoint, Teams).
- Advanced skills in HRIS or similar SAP based system.
- Strong data management skills.
- Strong mathematical and numerical aptitude.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.

**Assets (Nonessential)**:

- Payroll Practitioner Program certification would be an asset.
- Knowledge of University processes and organizational relationships.
