Position Overview

The Community Outreach Worker (COW) is a vital role within the Nova Scotia Health Authority, dedicated to delivering a spectrum of clinical services to adults and their families impacted by mental health challenges, substance use, or gambling disorders. This position operates in both clinical and community environments, providing essential services such as screening, assessment, brief interventions, case management, and both individual and group therapy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments to identify client needs.
  • Implement brief intervention strategies tailored to individual circumstances.
  • Facilitate case management and navigation of resources within Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Provide individual and group treatment sessions, fostering a supportive environment.
  • Advocate for clients, ensuring they have access to necessary services and resources.
  • Utilize principles of harm reduction and psychosocial rehabilitation in all interactions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • A minimum of one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Strong skills in screening and risk assessment, particularly in suicide risk evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with the DSM and experience in recovery-oriented practices.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Group facilitation experience and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and program development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building collaborative relationships.

Work Environment

This is a permanent full-time position requiring 75 hours biweekly, with potential travel to various sites as needed.


Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $42.01.
