We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Specialist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our Mental Health and Addictions department, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.
The successful candidate will work in both clinic and community settings, providing a range of services including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment. This position will require strong navigation, advocacy, and coordination of resources and services within Mental Health and Addictions and the community.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in social work, preferably with a Bachelor of Social Work degree, and registration with a professional regulatory body. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions, as well as excellent assessment skills, and the ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care.
The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of the DSM, experience in offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery, and the ability to navigate and de-escalate situations and offer crisis support. Group facilitation skills, motivational interviewing skills, and knowledge of community resources and program development methods are also essential.

About YouWe are looking for a candidate who is:
- Registered or eligible for registration with a professional regulatory body
- Has at least one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions
- Has excellent assessment skills and the ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care
- Has a working knowledge of the DSM
- Has experience in offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery
- Has the ability to navigate and de-escalate situations and offer crisis support
- Has group facilitation skills
- Has motivational interviewing skills
- Has knowledge of community resources and program development methods
- Has knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and client and family-centered care
- Has knowledge of social determinants of health/social context and its importance to decision formulation
- Has knowledge and experience with a trauma-informed care approach
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Has the ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships
- Has strong problem-solving skills
- Has demonstrated ability to make sound and reliable clinical decisions
This is a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours biweekly. The successful candidate will be required to travel to multiple sites, with SITE 1 being the primary location.
Compensation and IncentivesThe successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of $42.01 hourly.
