We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Specialist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our Mental Health and Addictions department, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.
The successful candidate will work in both clinic and community settings, providing a range of services including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment. This position will require strong navigation, advocacy, and coordination of resources and services within Mental Health and Addictions and the community.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in social work, preferably with a Bachelor of Social Work degree, and registration with a professional regulatory body. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions, as well as excellent assessment skills, and the ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care.
The Community Outreach Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder
- Working in both clinic and community settings
- Providing screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment
- Navigating, advocating, and coordinating resources and services within Mental Health and Addictions and the community
- Developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with colleagues, clients, and family members
- Providing crisis support and de-escalation services
- Facilitating group sessions and offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery
