About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide mental health services directly in the school community environment within designated Schools Plus schools.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents, with a focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders. You will work collaboratively with other professionals to develop and implement effective mental health services, and provide support to families and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents in a school-based setting
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address mental health needs
  • Collaborate with other professionals to provide comprehensive mental health services
  • Provide education and support to families and caregivers
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client progress and develop treatment plans

Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Social Work
  • Current registration with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) or eligible to be registered
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents within a mental health setting
  • Knowledge of the DSM-IV-5 and ability to use to screen for, assess, and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence-based treatment plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of principles of behavior management, cognitive behavior therapy, family and systems-based work, group therapy, and other evidence-based practices
