Position Overview

The Mental Health Community Support Specialist is a vital role within the Nova Scotia Health Authority, dedicated to providing comprehensive clinical services to adults and their families impacted by mental health challenges, substance use, or gambling disorders. This position operates in both clinical and community environments, delivering a diverse array of services including screening, assessment, brief interventions, case management, and both individual and group therapy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough screenings and assessments to identify client needs.
  • Provide brief interventions and case management to support recovery.
  • Facilitate individual and group treatment sessions.
  • Act as an advocate and resource for clients, families, and community organizations.
  • Utilize harm reduction principles and community development strategies in service delivery.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • A minimum of one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Strong skills in screening and risk assessment, including suicide risk evaluation.
  • Proficiency in independent practice and evidence-based care planning.
  • Knowledge of the DSM and experience with trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Competencies in additional languages are considered an asset.

Work Environment

This is a permanent full-time position requiring 75 hours biweekly, with potential travel to various sites as needed.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $42.01.
