Position Overview

The Social Worker plays a pivotal role in delivering essential services within the educational environment, specifically within designated schools participating in the Schools Plus initiative. This collaborative approach emphasizes a comprehensive and student-centered model, where partnerships are formed to support both the child and their family, with the school serving as the central hub for these services.

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of a multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker will:

  • Engage in the planning, development, and evaluation of mental health services tailored for children and adolescents.
  • Focus on early detection and intervention strategies for mental health issues prevalent among the school-age population.
  • Act as a crucial link between clients, educational institutions, and mental health services.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in providing mental health services to children and adolescents.
  • Proficiency in utilizing diagnostic tools to assess and address common childhood mental health disorders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management principles and therapeutic practices.
  • Skills in crisis intervention and risk assessment.
  • Ability to foster effective connections with various health, education, and community agencies.
  • Leadership capabilities in collaborative professional environments.
  • Competency in additional languages is an asset, with French being preferred.
Work Schedule

This is a permanent part-time position, requiring 37.5 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $49.04. Successful candidates may also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
