Position Overview

This role is focused on field operations within the Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) Division. At ADC, our mission is to empower individuals with diabetes to take control of their health through innovative products that deliver precise data for informed decision-making. We are transforming glucose monitoring with cutting-edge sensing technology.

The Diabetes Sales Specialist is responsible for executing activities in alignment with established company policies and ethical standards to achieve optimal sales growth within a designated territory. This includes engaging with high-prescribing healthcare professionals, educators, and retail pharmacists in the diabetes sector, while maintaining comprehensive knowledge of disease states, competitive landscape, and Abbott Diabetes Care offerings to fulfill customer needs and expectations. This position reports directly to the District Manager.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, the Diabetes Sales Specialist will:

  • Develop a strategic territory plan aimed at maximizing sales by analyzing market trends and utilizing available data to create, implement, monitor, and adjust plans to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives; employ a structured selling approach that includes pre-call preparation, effective communication, needs assessment, and follow-up analysis.
  • Enhance sales and market share of sensors and blood glucose monitoring test strips by effectively educating and persuading healthcare professionals to recommend Abbott products to their patients.
  • Collaborate closely with sales and marketing colleagues to increase market share.
  • Implement targeted patient initiation programs (including clinic events) to facilitate the onboarding of insulin-using patients.
  • Identify and leverage opportunities for sales growth while working in partnership with Abbott Laboratories representatives and marketing teams.
  • Engage in continuous self-development to stay informed about the disease state, new product offerings (both Abbott and competitors), and evolving market conditions to effectively manage the territory.
  • Clearly communicate sales activities, follow-ups, and reports in a consistent manner, while adhering to key administrative and project timelines.
  • Ensure all assigned company equipment, records, and supplies are maintained in accordance with company policies for optimal operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of sales experience.
  • The role necessitates training and knowledge of diabetes sales and marketing networks, including the technical background to understand diabetes management, treatment modalities, and monitoring techniques, as well as Abbott Diabetes Care and competitive products to effectively represent Abbott during sales interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities are essential for maintaining distribution of existing product lines in a competitive landscape, achieving sales objectives, and implementing effective promotional strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and selling skills.
  • Capability to devise and present innovative solutions.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Experience and knowledge in diabetes care will be considered advantageous.
