This field-based position is dedicated to the Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) Division, where our mission is to empower individuals with diabetes to effectively manage their health through innovative products that deliver precise data for informed decision-making. Our cutting-edge sensing technology is transforming glucose monitoring for better health outcomes.
As a Diabetes Sales Specialist, you will operate within the framework of established company policies and ethical standards to drive significant sales growth in your designated territory. You will engage with high-prescribing healthcare professionals, including physicians, educators, and retail pharmacists, while maintaining an extensive understanding of the diabetes landscape, competitive offerings, and Abbott's product suite to fulfill customer needs and expectations. This role reports directly to the District Manager.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, the Diabetes Sales Specialist will:
- Develop a comprehensive territory strategy to optimize sales by analyzing market trends and leveraging available data to create, implement, monitor, and adjust plans to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives. Utilize a structured selling approach that encompasses pre-call preparation, effective opening techniques, positioning statements, probing questions, needs assessment, objection handling, closing strategies, and post-call evaluations.
- Increase sales and market share of glucose monitoring sensors and blood glucose monitoring (BGM) test strips by effectively educating and persuading healthcare professionals to recommend Abbott products to their patients.
- Collaborate closely with sales and marketing teams to enhance market presence and share.
- Implement targeted patient initiation programs, including clinic events, to accelerate the onboarding of insulin-using patients.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to expand sales while working in tandem with Abbott Laboratories representatives and marketing teams.
- Engage in continuous self-improvement initiatives to stay informed about the diabetes sector, new product developments (both Abbott and competitors), innovative tools, and evolving market conditions to effectively manage your territory.
- Clearly communicate sales activities, follow-ups, and reports in a concise and consistent manner, while adhering to key administrative and project timelines.
- Ensure all assigned company equipment, records, and supplies are maintained according to company policies for optimal operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- At least 3 to 5 years of sales experience.
- The role necessitates a solid understanding of diabetes sales and marketing networks, including the technical knowledge required to comprehend diabetes management, treatment modalities, monitoring practices, and Abbott's product offerings to effectively represent them during sales interactions with healthcare professionals.
- Strong problem-solving abilities are essential for maintaining product distribution in a competitive market, achieving sales and profit objectives, implementing effective promotional strategies, and addressing competitive claims.
- Excellent interpersonal and selling skills.
- Ability to devise and present innovative solutions.
- Strong negotiation capabilities.
- Experience and knowledge in diabetes care will be considered advantageous.
