Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Compensation and Benefits Manager to lead our team in delivering complex compensation and benefit plans for over 5,000 employees at Halton Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Halton Healthcare's compensation and benefit programs, including job evaluations, annual salary and benefit premium adjustments, and other related tasks.
  • Develop and implement effective communications and briefing notes related to benefits and compensation, ensuring timely implementation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research and provide expert advice on related legislation, competitive trends, and best practices in compensation and benefits, working closely with the Compensation and Benefits team to interpret data and develop recommendations.
  • Work with the team to conduct research and develop bargaining proposals, identifying risks and benefits related to compensation and benefits program changes, and recommending cost containment strategies to support Halton Healthcare's strategic goals.
  • Facilitate job evaluation processes, including expert advice and guidance to senior leadership and related committees.
  • Lead annual non-union salary review processes and utilize knowledge of applicable pay equity legislation and policies to ensure pay equity for all employee groups.
  • Support the administration of Halton Healthcare's benefits plans, ensuring legislative and contractual requirements are met, and manage relationships with group insurance carriers, pension providers, external consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Work with key stakeholders within Halton Healthcare and external advisors to address benefit/pension changes, costs, and renewals, and liaise with HOOPP as the central administrator of the multi-employer pension plan.
  • Resolve complex inquiries regarding benefit coverage and pension plan queries escalated from within the broader HR teams, and provide trusted advice and recommendations to the Total Rewards team and Manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, and pension administration, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Completed university degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field, with specialist certification as a compensation and/or benefits professional.
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with standards and practices for provincial and federally mandated laws with respect to compensation, benefits, and pensions.
  • Subject matter expert in all areas of compensation and benefits program design and maintenance, including variable/incentive pay, job evaluation, benefit trending, defined pension plans, and other related areas.
  • Solid understanding of unionized environments, including administration of multiple Collective Agreements.
  • Demonstrated success in leading projects/initiatives, with strong analytical skills, ability to conduct research, and condense complex information into succinct reports.
  • Advanced capability in HRIS applications, with strong spreadsheet and analytical skills, and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
