Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Compensation and Benefits Manager to lead our team in delivering complex compensation and benefit plans, as well as the administration of our defined benefit pension plan. The successful candidate will have a strong background in compensation, benefits, and pension administration, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership
    • Design, implement, and maintain Halton Healthcare's compensation and benefit programs, including job evaluations, annual salary and benefit premium adjustments, and other related tasks.
    • Develop and communicate concise and effective communications and briefing notes related to benefits and compensation, including legislative changes, collective bargaining, regulatory requirements, and policy changes.
    • Conduct research and provide expert advice on related legislation, competitive trends, and practices within peer hospitals and the larger marketplace.
    • Work with the team to conduct research and develop bargaining proposals, identifying risks and benefits related to compensation and benefits program changes.
  • Compensation Programs
    • Facilitate the job evaluation process, providing expert advice and guidance to senior leadership and related committees.
    • Lead the annual non-union salary review process.
    • Utilize knowledge of applicable pay equity legislation and policies to ensure that Halton Healthcare maintains pay equity for all employee groups.
  • Benefit Plans and Hospital of Ontario Healthcare Pension Plan (HOOPP)
    • Support the administration of Halton Healthcare's benefits plans, ensuring legislative and contractual requirements are met.
    • Manage relationships with group insurance carriers, pension providers, external consultants, and regulatory bodies regarding contracts, plan language, complex calculations, reporting requirements, and other administrative issues.
    • Work with key stakeholders within Halton Healthcare and external advisors regarding benefit/pension changes, costs, and renewals.
    • Liaise with HOOPP as the central administrator of the multi-employer pension plan, leading projects such as changes to the Plan.
    • Resolve complex inquiries regarding benefit coverage and pension plan queries escalated from within the broader HR teams.
    Requirements
    • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, and pension administration, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Completed university degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field. Specialist certification as a compensation and/or benefits professional is required.
    • Strong knowledge and familiarity with standards and practices for provincial and federally mandated laws with respect to compensation, benefits, and pensions.
    • Subject matter expert in all areas of compensation and benefits program design and maintenance.
    • Solid understanding of unionized environments, including administration of multiple Collective Agreements.
    • Demonstrated success in leading projects/initiatives.
    • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to conduct research and condense complex information into succinct reports.
    • Advanced capability in HRIS applications, with strong spreadsheet and analytical skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
