Job Summary

The Director of Employee and Labour Relations will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing strategic employee and labour relations services and initiatives to promote effective, fair, respectful, and productive labour/management relations between the College and its employee groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the Human Resources advising/consulting function and ensure effective partnering in the delivery of Human Resources (HR) services to managers and employees.
  • Provide specialized advice, assistance, and coaching to directors, managers, and other stakeholders to help resolve workplace issues and assist leadership to improve their decision-making capabilities.
  • Develop educational programs and processes and conduct training presentations and seminars on employee and labour relations issues to ensure a fair and equitable approach to labour relations.
  • Provide advanced labour relations advice, including collective agreement interpretations, bargaining preparations, and related activity, local agreements, human rights requirements, and other employment policy and contract interpretations.
  • Support the management of dispute resolution processes to assist in resolving complaints and grievances and to mediate agreements.
  • Conduct and oversee investigations into workplace misconduct and workplace harassment complaints.

Requirements

  • Requires a 4-year degree in either Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Social Sciences, Psychology, Business, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of progressive leadership experience in Employee and Labour Relations.
  • An HR Professional designation is required (CHRE, CHRL, or CHRP).
  • Strategic Leadership Certification or Alternative Dispute Resolution training is considered an asset.
