Employee Relations Specialist

Purpose:
Faculty Relations at York University supports collective bargaining, collective agreement administration and on-going labour-management relations for academic employees. Reporting to the Director, Faculty Relations, the Senior Labour Relations Advisor provides guidance and advice on labour relations and human resource matters to academic administrators and managers. The Senior Advisor also provides advice and support to the Director, Faculty Relations and Associate Director, Faculty Relations in the negotiation of collective agreements and participates in collective bargaining as assigned. The role involves conducting research, data collection, developing analytical tools, preparing summary reports and maintaining files related to internal complaints, grievances, awards and settlements, and external decisions and awards.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct research and analysis on labour relations and employment legislation
• Provide guidance and advice on labour relations and human resource matters
• Participate in collective bargaining and negotiate collective agreements
• Conduct research and data collection on labour relations and employment legislation
• Develop analytical tools and prepare summary reports
Requirements:
• University degree in Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration or a similar relevant field
• Demonstrated skills in labour negotiations and collective agreement administration
• Expertise in presenting at grievances and providing counsel on labour relations and employment legislation
• Proven negotiating and problem solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability
• Sound knowledge of employment and labour law
