Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • For those graduated prior to 1995, a medication administration certificate from an accredited community college is necessary.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is essential.
  • Enrollment in or successful completion of the IV Therapy Course is required.

Additional Skills and Attributes:

  • Demonstrated clinical experience in patient-centered care, including strong skills in patient assessment, care planning, education, and documentation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a solid command of English to effectively convey information.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, facilitating effective collaboration with patients and families.
  • Proven decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.

  • Proficiency in computer systems, particularly with electronic medical records.
  • Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to new or unexpected situations while adhering to the CNO's Ethics Practice Standard.
  • Compliance with the CNO's Confidentiality and Privacy-Personal Health Information Practice Standard and adherence to Mackenzie Health's policies and procedures.
  • Physical capability to perform the essential duties of the role, as assessed by the Occupational Health and Safety Department.
  • A proven record of attendance.
  • Understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies that promote a safe and inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited nursing program is preferred.
  • Recent completion of a physical assessment course is preferred.
  • Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO) is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of recent nursing experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in an acute care environment within the last three years is preferred.
  • Experience working with adult and geriatric populations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
