Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. Utilizing a holistic approach, the nurse ensures high-quality and safe treatment for patients, adhering to the guidelines established by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the standards upheld by Mackenzie Health. This role involves caring for patients with well-defined and predictable health needs, collaborating closely with the interprofessional care team to enhance the overall patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively manage a diverse workload in a dynamic healthcare setting.
  2. Proactively address and resolve challenges in a constructive and respectful manner.
  3. Utilize sound professional judgment and adhere to best practice protocols.
  4. Foster a safe and inclusive environment by complying with safety policies and procedures for both patients and staff.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  2. Medication administration certification from an accredited community college if graduated prior to 1995.
  3. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  4. Completion or enrollment in the IV Therapy Course.

  1. Demonstrated clinical experience in patient-focused care, including assessment, care planning, education, and documentation.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in English.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with patients, families, and team members.

  10. Proficiency in using electronic medical records and computer systems.
  11. Familiarity with relevant health regulations and standards.

  13. Physical capability to meet the demands of the role, as assessed by Occupational Health and Safety.
  14. Strong attendance record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited nursing program.
  2. Recent completion of a physical assessment course.
  3. Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO).
  4. A minimum of one year of recent nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  5. Experience working with adult and geriatric populations.
  6. Ability to communicate in a second language.
