Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. Utilizing a holistic approach, the LPN ensures that patients receive high-quality and safe care in accordance with the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the evidence-based practices upheld by Mackenzie Health. This role involves caring for patients with well-defined complex needs, predictable outcomes, and manageable responses. Working collaboratively with an interprofessional care team, the LPN contributes to enhancing the overall health experience for patients and their families, guided by professionalism and the core values of Mackenzie Health, which include excellence, leadership, and empathy.

Key Responsibilities

Effectively manage a diverse workload in a dynamic healthcare environment. Proactively address and resolve challenges in a constructive and respectful manner. Utilize sound professional judgment and adhere to best practice guidelines. Foster a safe and inclusive atmosphere by complying with all patient and staff safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario. For those who graduated before 1995, a medication administration certificate from an accredited community college is necessary. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. At least one year of recent nursing experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an acute care setting within the last three years. Enrollment in or successful completion of the IV Therapy Course.

Additional Skills and Attributes

Demonstrated clinical expertise in patient-focused care, including assessment, care planning, education, and documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in English to effectively convey information. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, and team members. Proven decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Commitment to delivering quality care and safety, exercising sound professional judgment and utilizing evidence-based practices. Strong organizational skills to manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to resolve conflicts and address issues in a productive and respectful manner. Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Dedication to continuous learning and professional growth. Proficiency in computer systems, including experience with electronic medical records. Familiarity with relevant legislation and standards, including the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Ability to adapt to new situations and maintain compliance with ethical standards. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy regarding personal health information. Physical capability to perform the essential duties of the role, as assessed by the Occupational Health and Safety Department. Strong attendance record. Understanding and adherence to safety policies that promote a secure and inclusive environment. Effective use of empathy in all interactions. Alignment with Mackenzie Health's values of Excellence, Leadership, and Empathy. Dedication to providing exceptional experiences for both staff and clients in a challenging healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited program. Recent completion of a physical assessment course. Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO) is preferred. Proficiency in a second language is an asset. Previous experience in the role of a Licensed Practical Nurse.
