Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering culturally sensitive care to patients with clearly defined and established complex care requirements, who exhibit predictable outcomes and manageable responses.
  • Evaluating patients to identify changes in their condition and/or needs, and communicating these to the appropriate team members.
  • Administering and documenting therapeutic interventions and medications in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serving as an advocate for patients.
  • Engaging in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • If graduated prior to 1995, a Medication Administration Certificate from an accredited community college.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Completion of Coronary Care Course 1, or a commitment to complete within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in patient-centered care, including robust patient assessment, care planning, patient education, and documentation capabilities.

  • Understanding and adherence to patient and staff safety protocols that promote a secure and inclusive atmosphere for all.
  • Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited nursing program.
  • Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO).
  • At least one year of recent nursing experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in an acute care environment within the last three years.
  • One year of experience in Emergency or Telemetry settings.
  • Two years of experience in Medicine/Surgical care.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) course preferred, or equivalent training.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Previous experience within the Registered Practical Nurse role.
