Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive, high-quality, and safe care to patients, adhering to the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Utilizing evidence-based nursing practices, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for managing the care of patients with well-defined complex needs, ensuring predictable outcomes and manageable responses. Working collaboratively with an interprofessional care team, this role is integral in fostering a world-class healthcare experience for patients and their families, guided by professionalism and the core values of Mackenzie Health: excellence, leadership, and empathy.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Medication administration certificate from an accredited community college if graduated prior to 1995.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • At least one year of recent nursing experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an acute care setting within the last three years.
  • Enrollment in or completion of the IV Therapy Course.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven clinical experience in patient-centered care, including assessment, care planning, education, and documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Demonstrated decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Commitment to quality care and safety, with the ability to apply best practices and evidence-based approaches.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to address and resolve conflicts respectfully and productively.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, particularly electronic medical records.
  • Familiarity with relevant health regulations and standards.
  • Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges while maintaining ethical standards.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the job requirements as assessed by Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Consistent attendance record.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety policies that promote an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions effectively.
  • Empathetic interaction with patients and colleagues.

  • Dedication to providing exceptional experiences in a challenging healthcare setting.

Additional Preferred Attributes

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Recent completion of a physical assessment course.
  • Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO).
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Previous experience in the Licensed Practical Nurse role.
