Licensed Practical Nurse - Surgical Services

Key Responsibilities for Quality Care

Required Qualifications

Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited program is preferred. Valid Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the regulatory body is mandatory. For graduates prior to 1995, a medication administration certificate from an accredited community college is required. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is essential.

Additional Skills and Experience

Demonstrated clinical experience in patient-focused care, showcasing strong skills in patient assessment, care planning, education, and documentation. Physical capability, including strength, flexibility, and endurance, as assessed by the Occupational Health and Safety Department. A minimum of 2 years of recent experience in inpatient surgery, day surgery, or emergency care is required. Familiarity with electronic medical records is advantageous. Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the regulatory body is beneficial. Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively engage with patients, families, and colleagues. Proven decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Capacity to take initiative and adapt to new or unexpected situations. Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.

Preferred Qualifications

Operating Room Certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Recent experience in Endoscopy, Urology, and Pediatric surgery. Completion of a physical assessment course. Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO) or Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is a plus. Experience in an ambulatory clinic setting is an asset. Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.
