About This Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Palliative Care Physician to become a vital part of our multidisciplinary palliative care team in Nova Scotia. This role involves providing compassionate care to patients and their families in various settings, including home, hospital, and hospice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a supportive team, including palliative care nurses, social workers, and administrative staff, to serve communities in the region.

This position offers the opportunity to engage in clinical practice while also collaborating with family physicians and medical specialists through a shared-care model. Additionally, there is potential for involvement in teaching medical students and residents from Dalhousie University, as well as opportunities for research participation.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of inter-professional initiatives in Palliative Care.
  • Providing care across various settings, including hospitals, in-patient palliative care units, home care, long-term care, and assisted living facilities.
  • Following up with patients after initial consultations, ensuring appropriate visits and support.
  • Collaborating closely with the palliative care team to enhance patient advocacy.
  • Prescribing and administering medications and treatments, including the use of CADD pumps.
  • Mentoring medical students and family medicine residents.
Expected Work Hours

This is a part-time position at 0.5 FTE.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Certification eligibility with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • Accredited training in Palliative Medicine or a Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care.
  • Experience working within a shared care model across diverse care settings.
  • A demonstrated interest in the palliative approach to care and capacity building.
