The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dedicated and skilled Palliative Care Physician to enhance our multidisciplinary palliative care team. This role involves providing compassionate care to patients and their families in various settings, including home, hospital, and hospice environments. Our service area includes several communities, and you will collaborate with a supportive team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, and administrative staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position encompass:
- Contributing to the design and implementation of inter-professional palliative care initiatives.
- Delivering care across multiple settings, including hospitals, in-patient units, and community residences.
- Maintaining ongoing patient relationships through follow-up consultations and collaboration with other healthcare providers.
- Working closely with the palliative care team to ensure comprehensive patient support.
- Advocating for patients' needs and preferences.
- Prescribing and managing treatment plans, including the use of CADD pumps.
- Mentoring medical students and residents from Dalhousie University.
- Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
- Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day
- Annual leave includes 6 weeks of paid vacation and continuing professional development.
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Certification eligibility with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Accreditation in Palliative Medicine or a Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care.
- Proven experience in a shared care model across diverse healthcare settings.
- A strong commitment to the palliative approach to care and collaboration with colleagues.
