The Energy Services team plays a crucial role in enhancing the company's risk-adjusted earnings through effective portfolio management and market advisory services. This team is divided into three key areas: (i) Portfolio Management, focusing on trade strategy development and execution; (ii) Client & Asset Support, managing customer agreements and asset onboarding; and (iii) Market Analytics, responsible for reporting and developing analytical tools to support the portfolio management team.

As a Power Market Analyst, you will be part of the Market Analytics group, collaborating closely with the trading team to create proprietary tools and systems that facilitate decision-making and reporting within Energy Services.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of North American power markets and experience with financial instruments such as swaps and derivatives. You should have advanced analytical skills and a strong grasp of best practices for handling large datasets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement models to monitor and evaluate risk metrics on asset portfolios, as directed by the trading group.
  • Gather and analyze industry intelligence, identifying trends and communicating insights to stakeholders.
  • Perform routine tasks for the trading team, including providing forward pricing and asset strategy support.
  • Assist in the scheduling and execution of trades, including financial swaps and congestion management.
  • Conduct fundamental-based price simulations for various price nodes to support trading operations using commercial software.
  • Maintain and publish executive reports, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Validate and provide commentary on existing reports, including daily, weekly, and monthly analyses.
  • Independently gather data and synthesize conclusions to produce high-quality analyses for internal stakeholders.
  • Enhance tools and queries to acquire wholesale power market data as needed.
  • Support database monitoring and data validation efforts.
  • Create automation tools to streamline routine analytical processes.
  • Assist in the validation of data and the development of automated checks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL (Snowflake) is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with market simulation tools is advantageous.
  • A foundational understanding of energy markets and trading instruments is essential.
  • Experience in deregulated energy markets or trading environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of market drivers in ERCOT, CAISO, and AESO is a plus.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and modeling capabilities are required.
