Assistant Director, Strategic Partnerships

**Purpose**:
The Asian Business and Management Program (ABMP) is a unit within the York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR), a community of York University researchers who are committed to analyzing the changing historical and contemporary dynamics of societies in Asia. ABMP is a self-sustaining, not-for-profit program offering non-degree training programs targeting audiences from Asian countries. This includes custom professional development and management training to government officials and professionals, as well as newcomers to Canada from Asia, and career experience programs for students who identify as Asian in Canada or in the home-country. The current focus is on China, India, Vietnam and Malaysia with plans for expansion to other Asian countries.The Assistant Director, Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives role works with the Executive Director and Program Director roles to develop and implement the strategic development plan for ABMP's business. Through managing effective relationships with clients and partners in Asia and in Canada, the role is responsible for developing and growing new business opportunities, securing funding from granting/sponsoring agencies, and for meeting the program's annual targets for revenue and margin to ensure sustainable income to fund ABMP's operations.
**Education**:
Bachelors degree in relevant discipline, such as business administration, education, international politics, or global management with specialty in Asia.
Ability to read, write and speak Mandarin fluently is required.
**Experience**:
5 years of related experience.
Experience in business development, building and maintaining effective relationships with international clients.
Experience working in the Asia Pacific, specifically in the higher education/training sector.
**Skills**:
Knowledge
Knowledge and existing network of connections in the public and private sectors, agencies, related to international partnerships and exchanges in Asia Pacific countries, specifically China, Vietnam, India, and Malaysia.
Knowledge of the geo-political environment in the Asia Pacific.
Knowledge of the Canadian public and private sectors.
Knowledge of curriculum and program development in the professional development sector.
Knowledge of educational and training needs in Asia Pacific countries.
**Skills**:Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and culture.
Ability to collaborate across internal and external communities to meet common objectives and achieve outcomes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate with tact and diplomacy in challenging situations.
Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess complex issues of concern to different parties, including prospective clients, students, university management and the public.
Ability to exercise judgement and make decisions clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals.
Effective project management, organizational, research, and reporting skills.
Ability to identify and analyze opportunities, develop, and implement action plans.
Ability to remain highly motivated, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges.
Leadership skills with ability to present to diverse audience groups and inspire action.
Technology fluency and e-Learning skills to manage e-Learning environments.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- **Compensation**:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
