The Opportunity

TC Energy's Measurement Services Canada department is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to contribute their expertise to the team, based in Edmonton, AB. In this role, you will play a critical role in ensuring our gas laboratory's day-to-day operation is safe, efficient, and effectively delivering to our partners.

We are a small team with big impact The laboratory team will drive maintenance activities for field operations, support management of gas quality in our system, ensures accuracy of measurement for our partners in Commercial Operations.

This position is not eligible for our domestic relocation program. The successful candidate must reside in Edmonton, Alberta before commencing the role.

The regular work schedule for this position will be:

  • Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 15:30
  • Ineligible for TC Energy's Hybrid Work Model

What you'll do

  • Operate and perform regular maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Perform natural gas compositional analysis using gas chromatograph.
  • Perform Sulphur in natural gas compositional analysis using pulsed flame photometric detectors.
  • Interpret reciprocating and/or centrifugal engine oil analysis results.
  • Interpret heat transfer fluid analysis results.
  • Support daily laboratory operations, including cylinder preparation, shipping, and receiving.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Chemistry.
  • 2 to 5 years of chemistry and laboratory operations related experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills and resolving problems independently.
  • Consideration will be given to individuals with other combinations of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in operating instruments related to used oil analysis (i.e., ICP, kinematic viscosity, TAN, FTIR, IS0 particle counter, Karl Fisher water, etc.)
  • Experience using a web-based oil analysis software program.
  • Experience in operating and performing maintenance on Gas Chromatographs.
  • Experience using SCION instruments & Compass software.
  • Experience in handling and changing high pressure carrier gas cylinders.
  • Experience in handling and working in an environment with high pressure natural gas.
  • Experience in developing RPA bots (Robotic Process Automation) and PowerBI dashboards and reports.

This position requires candidates to

  • Be subject to working conditions which include heavy lifting (50 pounds), bending and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
