Reporting to the Head of the Medical Imaging and Laboratory Sciences department within the School of Health and Life Sciences, this role is pivotal in providing instructional, clinical, and laboratory assistance in the delivery of the Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technology (CLXT) program. The successful candidate will independently conduct technical lessons in the laboratory setting, guided by established rubrics and assessment tools provided by instructors, to evaluate student performance across all CLXT disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Support:

  • Assist in the upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in the lab.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with other departments or programs as necessary.
  • Support educational technologists in the procurement, preparation, setup, and dismantling of lab exercises as needed.
  • Aid in the maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and safety manuals when required.

Instructional Support:

  • Deliver technical activities and lessons independently in various CLXT disciplines.
  • Assess students using established rubrics and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise students independently.
  • Demonstrate laboratory and diagnostic imaging equipment as needed.
  • Assist with lab demonstrations under the guidance of instructional staff across various CLXT disciplines.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use and application of related equipment.
  • Support instructional staff in ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment.
  • Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab exercises.
  • May be required to observe students at clinical training sites.

Student Support:

  • Offer tutorial and remedial assistance.
  • Collaborate with students on the development and execution of technical projects.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for students.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the CLXT field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Initiative and capability to work autonomously.
  • Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift 15-30 lbs unassisted.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform standard CLXT tasks physically.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and assignments.

Qualifications:

  • CLXT diploma and active membership with the relevant professional body.
  • Recommended 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, if necessary.

Remuneration: $59, $79,497.34 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Instructional Assistant II).

This position is governed by the relevant Collective Agreement.
