Genetics Laboratory Technologist I

As a Genetics Laboratory Technologist I, you will engage in the execution and analysis of both standard and intricate tests for a variety of genetic disorders utilizing molecular and cytogenetic methodologies in accordance with established protocols. Your role will also encompass the input of results into the laboratory information system (LIS), the generation of reports, and adherence to quality control and proficiency testing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and advanced genetic testing.
- Participate in quality assurance and safety protocols.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and manage supplies efficiently.
- Assist in the training of students and fellows/residents.
- Engage in accreditation processes and pre-analytical testing workflows.
Job Classification: Clinical Genetics Technologist I
Union Affiliation: HSAA FAC PROF/TECH
Unit and Program: Genetics and Genomics North
Work Schedule: Full-time with a shift pattern of days, rotating days off.
Salary Range: $38.56 - $51.27 per hour
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree and an advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics.
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
- Successful completion of a recognized Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in a clinical Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics laboratory is essential.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while being a reliable team player.
