Genetics Laboratory Technologist I

As a Clinical Genetics Technologist I, your role will encompass conducting and analyzing both standard and intricate assessments for a variety of genetic disorders utilizing molecular and cytogenetic methodologies in accordance with established protocols. You will be actively involved in the input of results into the laboratory information system (LIS), generating reports, ensuring quality control, participating in proficiency evaluations, adhering to laboratory safety regulations, reviewing relevant literature, assessing testing methods, and composing documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory.
- Provide training to students and fellows/residents.
- Engage in accreditation processes.
- Conduct pre-analytical testing procedures, including accessioning.

Employment Type: Full-Time Temporary with Benefits
Salary Range: $38.56 - $51.27 per hour
Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree along with an advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics is essential. Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA) is either required or must be pursued.
Additional Qualifications: Successful completion of a Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program from an accredited institution or equivalent is necessary. Relevant experience in a clinical Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics laboratory is preferred. Attention to detail and proficiency in both manual and automated techniques are critical. The ability to identify and resolve procedural discrepancies is required, along with advanced maintenance capabilities with minimal oversight. Proficiency in operating Windows is also necessary.
Preferred Attributes: A solid understanding of analytical techniques, coupled with exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and troubleshooting abilities, is advantageous. The ideal candidate will be organized, capable of working independently, and a collaborative team player dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective interaction with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
