Position: Laboratory Analyst

Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Role Overview and Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be focused on delivering high-quality, reliable analytical data in a safe and timely manner by adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures. Proficiently conduct analyses and complex sample preparations while acquiring comprehensive knowledge of analytical methods and associated quality control practices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing LIMS summary reports to effectively plan and prioritize daily tasks
  • Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during all operations
  • Preparing samples in accordance with established protocols prior to analysis
  • Executing testing procedures as per documented instructions
  • Ensuring exceptional accuracy in both sample preparation and analysis
  • Operating and maintaining essential instruments and equipment (e.g., computers, pipettes, automated sequencers, liquid handling instruments; GC experience is a plus)
  • Meeting quality standards and turnaround time requirements as specified by clients, ensuring samples are analyzed within holding time limits
  • Identifying and documenting any known sample deviations, non-conformances, or process discrepancies and reporting them to the Supervisor

Are you a good fit? You should ideally possess:

  • A Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a relevant field (e.g., BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technologist)
  • Proven experience in a Laboratory Technologist or Analyst role is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of sample handling procedures to maintain sample integrity through compliance with laboratory protocols and quality assurance standards
  • Knowledge of laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices for handling hazardous materials with appropriate precautions
  • Excellent manual dexterity, record-keeping, calculation, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to various duties as priorities change
  • Strong time-management, communication, multitasking, and prioritization abilities
  • A positive attitude with the capability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: Diploma in a relevant field (Required)
  • 1 year of experience in a related field (Preferred)
  • GC Experience is considered an asset

Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary (including some weekends)
  • Shift work (morning or afternoon)
