As NAIT continues to expand its student population and lead in practical education, we are seeking dedicated and skilled professionals to support both current and future industry experts and to contribute to Canada's premier polytechnic institution.
Reporting to the Department Head of Medical Imaging and Laboratory Sciences within the School of Health and Life Sciences, this role is essential for providing instructional, clinical, and laboratory assistance in the delivery of the Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technology (CLXT) program. The successful candidate will independently conduct technical lessons in the laboratory setting, guided by instructors, utilizing established rubrics and assessment tools to evaluate students across all CLXT disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Support:
- Assist in the upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other sections or programs as necessary.
- Support educational technologists in the procurement, preparation, setup, and dismantling of lab exercises.
- Help maintain Standard Operating Procedures and safety manuals as needed.
Instructional Support:
- Deliver technical activities and lessons independently in various CLXT disciplines.
- Assess students using provided rubrics and assessment tools, offering constructive feedback.
- Supervise students independently.
- Demonstrate laboratory and diagnostic imaging equipment as required.
- Assist with lab demonstrations under the guidance of instructional staff.
- Ensure familiarity with relevant equipment and its applications.
- Support instructional staff in ensuring the safe and proper use of equipment.
- Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab exercises.
- May involve visiting and observing students at clinical training sites.
Student Support:
- Offer tutorial and remedial assistance.
- Aid students in developing and executing technical projects in collaboration with other staff members.
- Ensure students are operating in safe conditions.
Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations in the CLXT field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Initiative and capability to work independently.
- Proficient in computer use and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to lift 15-30 lbs unassisted.
- Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform standard CLXT tasks physically.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and assignments.
Qualifications:
- CLXT diploma and active membership with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists.
- Recommended 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Class 5 driver's license, if applicable.
Remuneration: $59, $79,497.34 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Instructional Assistant II).
This position is governed by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
