Webuild has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line and we are currently seeking a Commercial Director


This position is a full-time 100% onsite position at our downtown office.


COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR


POSITION SUMMARY: The Commercial Director plays a critical role in driving the commercial strategy and business development initiatives of the organization. Leading the commercial team, the Commercial Director oversees contract negotiations, procurement activities, and client relations to maximize profitability and ensure sustainable growth. With a strategic mindset and strong leadership skills, the Commercial Director identifies new business opportunities, cultivates strategic partnerships, and fosters a culture of excellence in commercial operations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement the commercial strategy and business development plan in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Lead and mentor the commercial team, providing guidance and support in contract negotiations, procurement activities, and client relations.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and market segments to expand the organization's client base and revenue streams.
  • Oversee the preparation and negotiation of contracts, proposals, and agreements with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, finance, and legal teams, to assess commercial risks, opportunities, and contractual obligations.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify potential threats and opportunities for the organization.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and industry stakeholders to enhance the organization's reputation and market position.
  • Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes, systems, and performance metrics to optimize efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Prepare and present regular reports, analyses, and forecasts on commercial activities, financial performance, and market trends to senior management and board of directors.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and ethical business practices in all commercial activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial management, business development, or related roles, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and executing commercial strategies, negotiating contracts, and driving business growth.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of anticipating market trends, identifying opportunities, and mitigating risks.
  • Sound understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and cost management, with the ability to analyze financial data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation, persuasion, and influencing skills, with the ability to drive consensus and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Results-oriented, with a focus on delivering superior value to clients, maximizing profitability, and achieving sustainable growth.
  • Proficiency in commercial management software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Membership in professional associations or certifications in commercial management or business development is desirable.
