Position Overview:

GHD's Transportation Group is in search of a Commercial Manager. This role will report directly to the Commercial Director for Major Projects. The Project Commercial Manager will lead commercial and contract management efforts to enhance GHD's performance on significant Design and Construction (D&C) contracts.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting GHD (and/or its joint venture partners) in positioning for tender design services for D&C Contractors, ensuring alignment with our risk profile. Assisting the Project Director and Project Manager during the execution of tender design services to achieve commercial and contractual performance, including developing and negotiating the commercial framework for detailed design services. Supporting the Project Director and Project Manager throughout the detailed design services phase, from design development to construction completion, ensuring commercial and contractual performance. Collaborating with the Legal and Risk Team to identify and mitigate project risks and manage project-related claims. Overseeing multiple projects to ensure effective commercial delivery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the GHD Prime Contract or Joint Venture Contract for major projects. Prepare Variation claims in accordance with the Consultancy Agreement, maintaining a Variations register. Submit Delay notices and Extension of Time claims per the Consultancy Agreement, including an Extension of Time register. Ensure compliance with bonds, letters of credit, guarantees, insurance, and other initial contract requirements. Administer all commercial aspects of contracts and subcontracts, including payment terms, security packages, change orders, claims/disputes, and close-out matters. Maintain close communication with the Design Manager and Project Manager to ensure all significant project issues are addressed. Identify and manage project commercial risks as part of the project's Risk Register. Collaborate with the Legal and Risk Team to manage project claims and disputes. Ensure timely implementation of risk mitigation measures and track related costs. Work with the Project Director on claims under OCIP / Project Co policies.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree, technology diploma, or equivalent from a recognized institution, with a minimum of ten years of extensive technical, administrative, and project experience. Strong commercial and legal understanding in the professional services and/or construction contracting sector; experience in design for design-build project delivery is advantageous. Familiarity with the commercial frameworks and drivers of construction contractors, government, quasi-government, and private-sector clients. Experience in delivering design for large, multi-discipline projects. In-depth knowledge of standard-form General Conditions of Contract for design and construction work, with practical experience across multiple large projects. Proficiency in scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is a definite asset. Excellent negotiation skills.
