Position Description:

Reporting to the Director of IndigenousInitiatives, the Manager of Indigenous Initiatives will play a critical role inthe implementation of the Indigenous Education Strategy and management of theIndigenous Initiatives team. The incumbent works in collaboration with seniorleaders, administrators, faculty, and staff to develop, review, and revisepolicies, programs and practices across the College that prioritizes inclusiveIndigenous perspectives and ways of knowing, being and doing.

Key responsibilities:

Manages Indigenous Initiatives department and student centres
Develops tools and resources to support Indigenous initiatives and programming.
Prepares and oversees the development of resources, tools, based on relevant legislation, best and emerging practices to support institutional implementation of Indigenous initiatives.
Supports the Director, team, and others on campus in the consultation and integration of Indigenous approaches, decolonization and indigenization strategies, content and resources into college culture, activities, and programs.
Maintains reports of progress and activities and provides updates to the Director to determine and develop ongoing initiatives and outreach.
Manages Indigenous Initiatives team
Provides leadership, management (hiring, coaching, goal setting, work assignments, performance management, discipline, etc.) daily support and direction to full-time and part-time staff and students.
Works closely with team in planning calendar for events and activities. For programming events and ceremonies, ensures that all relevant resources are prepared and organized (including staff, Elders/Knowledge keepers, volunteers, etc.) and ensure that payments are provided for services (Elder/Knowledge keeper, drummer, etc.) aligned with Finance policies.
Manages the Indigenous Initiatives team by providing strategic direction, goal setting and daily support of staff, including assessments that utilize constructive feedback to promote services that are exemplary and position the college as a leader in Indigenous education services.
Supports the implementation of the Indigenous Initiatives Strategy and Action Plan through policy development and reporting.
Works closely with Director of Indigenous Initiatives to develop goals and metrics to support strategic implementation.
Engaging in discourse and dialogue with departments and teams - identifying and responding to needs of senior leaders, administration, faculty, support staff and students as it pertains to Indigenous awareness and knowledge development.
Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Indigenous Studies, Policy Administration, Higher Education Administration or equivalent combination of academic preparation and experience, with combined expertise in social justice, equity studies, anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices.
Minimum five (5) years' experience leadership, project and change management and policy / program development. Previous experience managing employees in an educational or Indigenous organization, preferably in a unionized environment.
Lived experience as an indigenous person navigating various systems that has deepen the analysis of Indigenous relations.
Experience working with urban Indigenous communities in the Toronto area.
Experience working First Nations, Inuit, and Metis across southern Ontario.

Ability to manage others in a unionized environment.
Project management expertise with data analysis skills.
Ability to build strong working relationships at all levels in the organization.
Demonstrated ability to review policy and develop and implement assessment tools.
Demonstrated expertise in facilitation, mediation, conflict management and engaging in difficult conversations,
Familiarity with human rights legislation (including the Ontario Human Rights Code, relevant provisions of the Education Act and Regulations, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms).
Proven ability to work under pressure to meet frequent deadlines; flexible, adaptable and responsive to change.
Ability to manage budgets and track expenditure.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, Canva and additional training software.
Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization.
