The Indigenous Health Program Manager will co-develop and implement an organization-wide Indigenous Health Strategy. Reporting to the Executive Lead- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) theIndigenous Health Program Manager will work collaboratively with the SickKids EDI Office, Executive leadership team, and Indigenous Health Advisory Council. SickKids recognizes the history of colonialism and on-going inequities experienced by Indigenous peoples in Canada. These inequities have occurred and continue to occur within health care institutions. SickKids is striving to continue its journey of truth and reconciliation to advance the quality of care, safety, and staff well-being; advancing the vision of Healthier Children: A Better World. Centering Indigenous knowledge and ways of life, the Indigenous Health Program Manager will develop an Indigenous Health strategy in close partnership with the SickKids Indigenous Health Advisory Council (IHAC) and SickKids leadership. The Indigenous Health Strategy development and oversight will include designing programs, managing program delivery, and overseeing the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of initiatives. The programs may include but are not limited to relationship-building, ceremonies, staff and patient education, events,space developmentand more. As a part of the foundational strategic work to better support patients, caregivers, and staff, the Indigenous Health Manager will guide planning around Indigenous data governance frameworks in collaboration with SickKids Leadership. About this Position The Indigenous Health Program Manager will apply Indigenous-centred experience and knowledge in the following:

1. Provide leadership to the development and advancement of the SickKids Indigenous Health Strategy, with close collaboration with the Indigenous Health Advisory Council and SickKids Leadership.
2. Nurture relations and partnerships with Indigenous Health Advisory Council, Indigenous communities, SickKids leadership, and internal SickKids community.
3. With an Indigenous-centred lens, design and oversee Indigenous Health Strategy programs and clarify roles and responsibilities. Programs may include but are not limited to relationship-building, education, reconciliation, cultural safety, strategic partnerships, and quality of care for Indigenous patients and families.
4. Collaborate with the Indigenous Health Navigator & Patient Experience Specialist to understand concerns regarding Indigenous Cultural Safety and barriers to care. Advise key staff and support conversations aimed at ensuring adequate resolution of such concerns.
5. Guide alignment of Indigenous Health Strategy with other SickKids strategies and initiatives with invested parties including the Office for Patient and Family Experience, the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Office, the Project Horizon team and more.
6. With an Indigenous-centred lens, develop and oversee reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of strategy.
7. Guide the development of Indigenous data governance frameworks to support data initiatives related to SickKids workforce, patients, and caregivers.

Overall Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and collaborate with the Indigenous Health Advisory Council and SickKids leadership in the development, management, and evaluation of the SickKids Indigenous Health Strategy.
• Attend the hospital's Indigenous Health Advisory Council (IHAC) meetings. Seek counsel from and work in partnership with IHAC on the development of the Indigenous Health Strategy and program implementation.
• Build and nurture relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Build and nurture relationships within SickKids community.
• Identify existing initiatives focused on Indigenoushealth and wellbeingand align initiatives with the Indigenous Health Strategy
• As part of Indigenous Health Strategy, develop programs to support Indigenous cultural safety at SickKids, including but not limited to ceremonies, medicines, and healing practices.
• Advise event planning for Indigenous Days of Significance (e.g., Bear Witness Day, National Indigenous People's Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and more).
• Guide the development and implementation of staff and patient education to advance culturally safe care.
• Lead the development of policies, procedures and guidelines that support Indigenous wellness, healing, and ways of knowing and being.
• Using Indigenous-centred methodologies, develop monitoring and evaluation plans for the Indigenous Health Strategy.
• Guide the development of Indigenous data governance frameworks to support data initiatives for SickKids workforce, patients, and caregivers.
• Relationality - Nurture, grow, and evolve relationships to cultivate trust and meaning in collaborations and partnerships. These relations will include Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Health Advisory Council, SickKids leadership, and other SickKids departments.
• Awareness -Thorough knowledge of health barriers experienced by Indigenous peoples and communities in Canada and the impact of history and colonialism. Knowledge of provincial and federal policies that impact the health and wellness of Indigenous peoples and communities is required.
• Strategic Planning - Ability to develop long-term goals or directions with tangible pathways (programs or short-term goals). Application of Indigenous-centred evaluation frameworks to monitor and evaluate progress and impact of programs or short-term goals.
• Leadership - Guide and collaborate to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, furthering SickKids' vision of Healthier Children: A Better World. Ability to identify relevant parties, clarify roles and responsibilities, and work towards common goals.
• Analysis and Meaning-Making - Ability to find information internal and external to SickKids. Ability to synthesize or make meaning of this information and use information to inform strategy planning, collaboration, communications, and more.
• Adaptability - Adapt to change and provide guidance during change.
• Consideration and Decision Making - Considerate of diverse perspectives, able to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and able to provide direction by making decisions.

Skills or Experience Required :

• This position requires lived experience and praxis. The incumbent must be First Nations, Inuit or Métis.
• An undergraduate degree in public policy, community development, social work, public health, Indigenous studies, or other relevant discipline is required. A master's degree is preferred.
• Experience in strategy and program development, implementation, and oversight.
• Demonstrated experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Traditional Healers.
• Strong knowledge of the history and enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit, andMétis) in Canada and the ongoing impacts of colonial legislations such as The Indian Act on Indigenous people and communities .
• Strong knowledge of a diversity of Indigenous approaches and perspectives on health, healing, and wellness.
• Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 Calls to Action, The United Nations Declaration On The Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act , and Section 35 of The Canadian Constitution Act. Familiarity with Indigenous system navigation models and principles.
• Familiarity with Indigenous-centred program evaluation methodologies and/or knowledge generation.
• Knowledge of the impacts of self-determination on Indigenous experiences of health and wellness and its role in the development of Indigenous focused health and wellness programs.
• Extensive knowledge of Indigenous organizations and community resources in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area
• Strong advocacy skills.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
• Superior interpersonal, collaboration, facilitation, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
