The Communications Services Branch within the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (IAO) is seeking a collaborative leader to join their team as Manager, Issues Management and Media Relations.

The Branch provides strategic communications planning advice, develops products, and integrated multi-faceted campaigns to support both the ministry and government's priorities. They also coordinate across government, providing advice, messaging, and support to other ministries on Indigenous-related communications.

Please note: attendance at the Toronto office will be required in alignment with the Ontario Public Services' current hybrid work model.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: The
**Issues and Media** team is the front line in identifying and tracking issues, providing advice for the ministry and government on Indigenous-related issues. The team monitors and analyses media and social media on an ongoing basis. They also provide Question Period and media preparation for the Minister, as well as analysis and expertise to inform strategies.

As the
**Manager, Issues Management and Media Relations**, you will:

- provide strategic issues management, crisis communications, and media relations advice to ministry colleagues, leadership, Minister's Office, Cabinet Office, and Premier's Office in support of ministry programs.
- lead, manage, and monitor media relations and develop strategies to support overall communications plans.
- represent IAO on committees relating to cross-ministry issues and corporate initiatives, and with other levels of government.
- motivate, coach, mentor and manage of team of professional staff, while supporting and promoting a productive, diverse and inclusive work environment.

- You have experience with strategic planning and operational management, including financial planning, budgeting as well as managing workload, human resources, and labour relations.

**Relationship and Stakeholder Management Skills**:

- You have strong verbal communications skills, and a high degree of tact and political acuity to confidently deliver high profile briefings to ministry executives and leadership.
- You have experience with building consensus, negotiating, and managing relationships in a politically sensitive environment.
- You demonstrate innovative thinking, issues management and problem-solving skills.
- You have strong relationship building skills to develop meaningful relationships and ongoing engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations.

**Specialized Knowledge and Expertise**:

- You have demonstrated expertise in managing a range of complex issues and media relations in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

You demonstrate political acuity, judgement skills to anticipate and manage contentious issues and to identify mitigating strategies.
- You have experience with large-scale strategic communications planning to provide leadership and expertise in the development and evaluation of communications plans, products, tools, program frameworks and new approaches.
- You have knowledge of project management principles and methodologies to oversee and guide the overall delivery of mandates and strategies.
