As Consultant, Indigenous Affairs, you will have considerable experience working with Indigenous communities. Your strengths as a leader, communicator, collaborator and problem solver will drive your ability to support the implementation of the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan. Working across the Toronto Public Service, you will support many divisions to work in a good way with Indigenous communities. You will also support Indigenous communities to navigate the City, work to break down systemic barriers and better meet the needs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis in Toronto.

**What will you do?**
- Cultivate effective working relationships and partnerships, working with Indigenous organizations and communities, multiple City of Toronto divisions and City Council.
- Provide strategic advice to the City and communities on Indigenous relations and truth, justice, reconciliation in accordance with the City's priorities
- Develop and maintain relationships with management, staff, government representatives, Councillors and their staff.
- Manage assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance and continuous learning.
- Recommend policies and strategies to resolve emerging issues by using expertise and knowledge to determine best solutions, for example, through the use of established policies and guidelines to adapt or enhance existing techniques, frameworks for analysis and evaluation.
- Undertake the planning, research, progress and completion of assigned projects investigating policy and program options, taking into account developments within the field, social, economic and political trends and issues, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Develop and oversee Request for Proposal (RFP) processes resulting in the selection and hiring of external consultants and managing timelines, tasks, budgets and project deliverables.
- Identify and provide advice, mentoring, consultation support, information and referrals to potential community leaders, members and to service providers and community organizations.
- Acts as a liaison for the City with Indigenous communities and tracks and develops responses to pressing community issues.
- Design, develop and present culturally appropriate presentations, workshops and education sessions for diverse audiences.
- Facilitate the development, maintain and/or coordinate relevant networks and service coordination mechanisms.
- Communicate and interpret relevant policies, programs and initiatives to the community.

**What do you need to succeed?**
- Lived experience as a First Nations, Inuit or Métis person, and experience working with Indigenous Peoples, communities, and/or organizations.
- Considerable experience in communicating and cultivating relationships/partnerships with community, organizations, stakeholder groups, civic institutions and the public.
- Considerable experience writing reports, project plans, briefings and policy papers for senior management that include strategic advice and recommendations on sensitive issues.
- Highly developed analytical, problem solving, strategic thinking and research skills.
- Post-secondary education in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function, including areas such as Indigenous governance, Indigenous studies, Indigenous social work/public health, planning, engineering, business, finance, economics, accounting, combined with relevant project management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of City's governance structure (e.g., Council, Divisions).
- Highly developed communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
- Highly developed sense of discretion, judgment and political acuity.
- Experience managing or coordinating projects/initiatives or strategic and operational reviews.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally informed engagement with the ability to maintain effective rightsholder and stakeholder relationships.
