Toronto, Canada Ministry of Indigenous Affairs Full time

**The Ministry**
The Ministry of Indigenous Affairs provides corporate Indigenous policy development, management support, negotiates and settles land claims. It also manages the Province's relationships with First Nations, Indigenous organizations (including Métis, Native women, Inuit and off-reserve) and the federal government. As the corporate lead on Indigenous affairs within the Ontario Government, it provides Indigenous policy development and relationship expertise. It coordinates cross-ministry Indigenous policy initiatives and multi-lateral relationship processes. It is also responsible for the Aboriginal Policy Framework and other corporate coordination activities.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- conduct research and analysis to support a variety of projects
- assist with the development of policies and program frameworks
- identify issues, trends and their potential impact on ministry policies and programs
- build and develop collaborative relationships with Indigenous partners
- implement and manage transfer payment programs in collaboration with Indigenous communities and organizations
- prepare a variety of correspondence and briefing materials

**How do I qualify?**:
**Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples**: You understand:

- concepts, barriers and principles for engaging, consulting and building relationships with Indigenous partners, communities and organizations
- historical, social, economic, legal, and political issues underlying Indigenous policy development

**Policy and Program Development Skills**: You have:

- knowledge of policy and program development principles, practices and techniques
- experience developing performance measures to effectively assess the impact of government policies and programs
- experience managing complex and sensitive policy and/or program issues

**Communication Skills**: You can:

- discuss policy options, strategies and issues with senior decision makers
- prepare a variety of tools, resources and briefing materials for senior management
- work collaboratively with internal partners, various levels of government as well as Indigenous stakeholders

**Research and Analytical Skills**: You can:

- evaluate qualitative and quantitative data to develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations
- assess and evaluate proposed policies, recommendations and options to ensure they are feasible and align with the government and ministry priorities
