**CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW**:
A Master’s degree in Education, Business Management, Indigenous Studies or a related discipline

A minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a similar position inclusive of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience in an educational environment

Deep understanding and respect of Indigenous histories, traditions and cultures

Advanced ability to effectively lead, communicate and form strong partnerships within TCDSB and with local Indigenous communities and organizations

Demonstrated experience as an authentic, transparent, and accountable leader committed to the principles of equity, student achievement and well-being

Proven capacity to manage change and a demonstrated ability to drive innovations from conception through to implementation

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Reporting to and under the general direction of the Superintendent of Equity, Diversity, Indigenous Education and Community Relations, the Indigenous Affairs Advisor will provide strategic leadership for Indigenization within the Academic portfolio. Working collaboratively with the leadership team, the Advisor will oversee and provide leadership for achieving the Indigenization goals at the TCDSB as part of the Multi Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) and Equity Action Plan (EAP), providing strategic support for related Indigenization priorities and special projects. Duties include but are not limited to:
Administration & Operations

Provide Indigenous perspective and strategic advice on key educational priorities and policies, across the TCDSB in the address of Indigenous issues

Develop and foster relationships with key partners, including provincial and federal government agencies, and with educational institutions and Indigenous organizations at the local, regional, provincial, national and international levels for the purpose of enhancing Indigenous initiatives at TCDSB

Liaise with the Indigenous Advisory Committee and key departments to contribute to Indigenous initiatives at TCDSB

Collaborate and build capacity on Indigenous affairs among business and academic leaders

Participate in senior level meetings as required to provide with respect to Indigenous matters

Strategic Leadership

Work collaboratively with TCDSB’s Curriculum, Leadership and Innovation department to provide strategic direction to initiatives that center Indigenous engagement in classroom culture

Monitor the implementation of Indigenous initiatives as they relate to the EAP to build capacity

Provide Indigenous perspective and strategic advice on key educational priorities and policies

Develop initiatives for long and short-term goals that advance TCDSB’s commitment to social justice teachings including aligning TCDSB practices and processes with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the TRC’s Calls to Action

Community Engagement

Cultivate relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations; advise on respectful, responsible, and reciprocal partnership opportunities that advance Indigenization efforts within the Academic portfolio
