Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team at Course. As a Senior Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for assisting and taking ownership of full-cycle accounting for multiple clients, juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, personal income tax preparation, and ONBusiness tasks that arise during the year as directed by the Small Business Management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Transaction Management: Record and maintain various client business' financial transactions, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments.
  2. Financial Data Entry: Record financial data into general ledgers, which are used to produce the balance sheet and income statement.
  3. Payroll Processing: Process full cycle Payroll for various companies using a variety of software from QuickBooks, Sage 50, PayWorks, Ceridian, etc.
  4. Accounting Cycle Management: Oversee the first six steps of the Accounting Cycle, while the last two are typically taken care of by an accountant.
  5. Bank Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  6. Accounts Payable and Receivable Management: Process A/P for proper coding and reconciliation of the account and work closely with A/R and collections.
  7. General Ledger Account Reconciliations: Perform GL account reconciliations and month end journal entries into GL.
  8. Year-End Closing: Help with month end and year end closing files, including preparing year end working papers for financial statement preparation.
  9. Client Support: Perform duties at client premises, as directed, including preparing PST and GST returns, matching packing slips, preparing cheques for signature, etc.
  10. Tax Preparation: Prepare T1 and T4 tax returns for assigned clients.
  11. Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices, and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  1. 5+ Years of Experience: 5 plus years progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience in a public accounting office environment with multi-currency tracking considered a strong asset.
  2. CPB Certification: CPB (or equivalent experience with some formal training in any of these programs) having hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting.
  3. Accounting Diploma/Degree: Possess an accounting Diploma/Degree (or equivalent education/experience).
  4. Personal Tax Knowledge: Solid knowledge of, and skills in, personal tax (intermediate level).
  5. Accounting and Bookkeeping Skills: Solid knowledge of, and skills in, accounting & bookkeeping (advanced level) - Proficient working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  6. Software Proficiency: Have significant verifiable experience with QuickBooks, Sage, and Xero software.
  7. Microsoft Office Suite: Great working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  8. Payroll and Employment Standards: Have extensive experience with payroll and Employment Standards and EFT transmittal, etc.
  9. Communication and Presentation Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal, written, electronic).
  10. Keyboarding Skills: Highly proficient keyboarding skills.
  11. Time Management and Organization: Ability to meet deadlines – Excellent time management skills (strong organization & prioritization).
  12. Teamwork and Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with high degree of independence, willingness and ability to learn and adapt to change, and proven ability to work within an active team.
  13. Reliability and Transportation: Very reliable and have their own transportation.
