Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team at F. H. Black & Company CPA Inc. as a key member of our accounting department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Year-End Duties
    • Prepare and manage NTR, Review and Audit engagement preparation and management
    • Prepare corporate and personal tax returns
    • Perform day-to-day and month-end accounting processes
    • Enter asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
    • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information, examining statements to ensure accuracy
    • Summarize current financial status by collecting information; prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports
    • Recommend and substantiate financial actions by analyzing accounting options
    • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
    • Maintain financial security and client confidence by following internal controls
    • Maintain file organization, stay on track to complete client filing deadlines
    • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, and enforcing adherence to requirements
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
    • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results, such as adhering to all deadlines as needed
  • Bookkeeping Duties
    • Prepare weekly, monthly, and periodic financial reports and analysis
    • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
    • Prepare and file GST, PST, and Payroll Remittance
    • Be directly responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting internally and/or to external accountant
    • Prepare data file and records for year-end external accountant
    • Track and report job costs
    • Prepare trial balance of books
    • Prepare invoices
    • Enter data
    • Perform other internal duties as assigned
    Requirements
    • 2-3 years' experience in day-to-day and month-end accounting processes
    • Understanding of full-cycle accounting, corporate finance, and data entry
    • Ability to analyze and report research results with accuracy
    • Understanding of Canadian legislation and taxation laws
    • Keen attention to detail, deadline-oriented, superior time management skills
    • Proficiency in client relations and strong communication skills (written & oral)
    • Proficiency in accounting software and related programs (MS Office, QB, Sage, MYOB, CaseWare, etc.)
