Job Summary

The Wildland Fire Crew Leader is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of firefighters while fighting a wildfire. This role ensures that the crew is working safely and effectively throughout the duration of the contract, maintains appropriate communication with all supervisory personnel, and ensures that fires are effectively contained and/or extinguished.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for a 5-person fire crew, including ensuring crew safety, guiding new crew members, and ensuring appropriate PPE and equipment is available.
  • Extinguish residual fire, including breaking apart smoldering debris, extinguishing embers, and moving burned debris.
  • Operate trucks and ATVs.
  • Support and participate in a culture of safety and employee ownership.
  • Comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, and maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.
Requirements
  • S100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety (or equivalent)
  • S185 Fire Entrapment Avoidance
  • S212 Fire Line Communications
  • S230 Introduction to Supervision (Crew boss)
  • S235 Burnoff and Backfiring
  • ICS 100 (Incident Command System)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Acted as a Crew Leader on three (3) fires OR twenty (20) days as a fire fighter (minimum 240 hours required)
  • Annual Physical Fitness Test—Moderate Standard
Preferred Certifications
  • OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement
  • Chainsaw or Power Saw operator
  • Wildland Fire Safety Danger Tree Assessor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License and a current Driver's Abstract
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions and work
  • Work well alone and with others
  • Possesses the ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Organization of equipment before, during and after shifts will be required
  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks
  • Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information
  • Must be able to communicate with others and represent Wright Canada Holdings Ltd in a professional manner
