Windsor, Ontario, Canada RGBSI Full time

Position Overview:

The North America Battery Technology Centre (BTC) is in search of an Equipment Maintenance & Calibration Engineer. This pivotal role involves the upkeep and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with various laboratory stakeholders to develop a systematic maintenance and calibration timetable. Furthermore, this position will engage with both internal teams and external suppliers to facilitate preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration of all apparatus utilized in the battery laboratory, thereby enhancing the operational excellence of our facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initially, the focus will be on training, strategic planning, documentation, and the operational launch of the laboratory. The Equipment & Calibration Engineer will pinpoint preventive maintenance tasks, collaborate with equipment manufacturers to devise maintenance strategies, and delineate both internal and outsourced maintenance procedures.
  • This role will also oversee equipment calibration, partnering with Test Engineers and the Lab Quality Engineer to determine which instruments require calibration. This includes formulating a calibration timetable and specifying both internal and external calibration requirements.
  • Additionally, the Equipment Calibration Engineer will create operational procedures that comply with established safety regulations for all standard maintenance and calibration activities. A comprehensive database tracking equipment maintenance and calibration statuses will also be established and managed by this role.
  • Once the laboratory is fully operational, the Engineer will handle daily maintenance and calibration duties. This encompasses managing the schedule, executing the maintenance and calibration plan, implementing corrective measures, generating calibration documentation, and refining maintenance and calibration intervals based on statistical evaluations.

Additional Duties:

  • Complete all required training and comply with safety protocols.
  • Oversee the planning, notification, and execution of equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Address unexpected repair and calibration requests from internal laboratory clients.
  • Analyze calibration measurement uncertainties.
  • Assist the Lab Quality Engineer in executing the laboratory's quality management system, ensuring alignment of maintenance and calibration documentation with quality system standards.
  • Manage spare parts inventories effectively.
  • Ensure all training requirements are consistently updated.
  • Escalate issues to management as necessary.
  • Monitor maintenance and calibration analytics, providing regular reports to management.
  • Supervise maintenance and calibration tasks performed by both in-house skilled trades and external contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in laboratory or manufacturing equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Hands-on experience in calibrating standard equipment parameters, including voltage, current, and temperature.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory tools and instruments.
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty principles.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, such as ISO 17025 or 9001.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; keen attention to detail.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and proficiency in measurement uncertainty practices.
  • Prior experience with ISO 17025 accreditation processes.
  • Experience with electric vehicle battery testing equipment or similar high-voltage, high-power systems.
  • Experience in unionized work environments.

Essential Attributes:

  • Relevant experience in managing equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal partners (lab engineers, unionized technicians) and external service providers.
  • Accountable and customer service-oriented.
  • Knowledgeable about laboratory quality systems and calibration processes.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience as outlined above.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings.

We provide competitive compensation and benefits, including medical, dental, 401k, short-term disability, AD&D, tuition reimbursement, and more. If you are dedicated to your professional growth and excellence in your work, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.
