Position Overview:

The North America Battery Technology Centre (BTC) is in search of an Equipment Maintenance & Calibration Engineer. This role is pivotal in ensuring the optimal performance of laboratory equipment and instruments through meticulous maintenance and calibration practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with laboratory stakeholders to develop and implement a systematic maintenance and calibration schedule for all lab equipment.
  • Engage with both internal teams and external vendors to facilitate preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration processes, enhancing the operational efficiency of the battery lab.
  • In the initial stages, focus on training, strategic planning, and documentation to support the lab's launch. This includes identifying preventive maintenance tasks and formulating maintenance plans in conjunction with equipment suppliers.
  • Work closely with Test Engineers and the Lab Quality Engineer to determine calibration needs, creating a comprehensive calibration schedule that includes both in-house and outsourced services.
  • Establish and uphold safety standards by developing work procedures for equipment maintenance and calibration processes.
  • Manage a detailed database to track the maintenance and calibration status of all equipment, ensuring transparency and accessibility of information.
  • Once operational, oversee daily maintenance and calibration activities, including executing the maintenance plan, implementing corrective measures, and generating analytical reports on calibration outcomes.

Additional Duties:

  • Complete all required training and comply with safety regulations.
  • Supervise maintenance and calibration planning, notifications, and execution.
  • Address urgent repair and calibration requests from internal lab customers.
  • Analyze calibration measurement uncertainty and collaborate with the Lab Quality Engineer to align maintenance and calibration documentation with quality system requirements.
  • Manage spare parts inventories to ensure readiness for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain up-to-date training records and escalate issues to management as necessary.
  • Track maintenance and calibration analytics, providing regular reports to management.
  • Oversee maintenance and calibration activities conducted by both in-house skilled trades and external contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in laboratory or manufacturing equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Hands-on experience with calibrating standard equipment parameters, including voltage, current, and temperature.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory tools and instruments, as well as principles of measurement uncertainty.
  • Understanding of quality systems such as ISO 17025 or 9001.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with measurement uncertainty practices and ISO 17025 accreditation.
  • Familiarity with EV battery testing equipment or similar high voltage systems.
  • Experience in unionized work environments.
