This position will work closely with various laboratory stakeholders to develop a systematic maintenance and calibration timetable. Furthermore, the specialist will coordinate with both internal teams and external service providers to ensure preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration of all apparatus utilized in the laboratory, thereby enhancing the operational excellence of our facilities.
  • Initially, the focus will be on training, strategic planning, documentation, and the operational launch of the laboratory. The Equipment Calibration Specialist will identify preventive maintenance requirements, collaborate with equipment manufacturers to create maintenance schedules, and define both in-house and outsourced maintenance protocols. Additionally, this role will oversee equipment calibration, partnering with Test Engineers and the Lab Quality Engineer to pinpoint items needing calibration. This includes formulating a calibration timetable and specifying both internal and external calibration activities.
  • The Equipment Calibration Specialist will also be responsible for developing operational procedures that comply with established safety regulations for all standard maintenance and calibration activities. This role will involve the creation and management of a comprehensive database to track equipment maintenance and calibration statuses. The dissemination of maintenance and calibration schedules within the laboratory will also be a key responsibility.
  • Once the laboratory is fully operational, the specialist will manage daily maintenance and calibration operations. This encompasses overseeing the schedule, executing the maintenance and calibration strategy, implementing corrective measures, generating calibration documentation, and refining maintenance and calibration intervals based on statistical evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete all required training and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Manage the planning, notification, and execution of equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Address repair and unplanned calibration requests from internal laboratory clients.
  • Analyze calibration measurement uncertainty.
  • Assist the Lab Quality Engineer in the implementation of the laboratory's quality management system, ensuring alignment of maintenance and calibration documentation with quality system standards.
  • Establish and manage spare parts inventories.
  • Ensure all training requirements are consistently updated.
  • Escalate issues to management as necessary.
  • Monitor maintenance and calibration analytics and provide regular reports to management.
  • Supervise maintenance and calibration tasks performed by both in-house skilled trades and external contractors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in laboratory or manufacturing equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Hands-on experience in calibrating standard equipment parameters, including voltage, current, and temperature.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory tools and instruments.
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty principles.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, such as ISO 17025 or 9001.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities; keen attention to detail.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency and practical experience with measurement uncertainty methodologies.
  • Previous involvement with ISO 17025 accreditation processes.
  • Experience with electric vehicle battery testing equipment or similar high-voltage systems.
  • Experience in unionized work environments.
Additional Requirements:
  • Relevant experience in managing equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Strong accountability and customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality systems and calibration processes.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience as outlined above.
  • Occasional travel to the US for meetings may be required.
