Ambulatory Care Unit Clerk - CST Sustainment

As a vital member of the healthcare team, you will undertake a range of administrative tasks essential for the efficient functioning of the Program Area or Unit. This includes scheduling and coordinating appointments, diagnostic tests, and procedures, processing clinician orders, preparing requisitions, and performing reception duties. Your role is crucial in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety policies and emergency protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately transcribe and process clinician orders by completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services, utilizing the electronic health record system to schedule appointments and communicate necessary information according to established procedures.
  • Organize and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients by managing multiple interrelated appointments and effectively communicating related instructions to patients through various channels.
  • Collect and prepare patient information for medical appointments to facilitate smooth patient flow, ensuring all necessary documents are ready for the clinical team and patients.
  • Execute a variety of receptionist tasks, including greeting and registering patients, assisting with wayfinding, answering phone inquiries, and relaying messages as needed.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and orientation of new staff by demonstrating work procedures and addressing related questions, while also supporting student clinical practicums as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12, along with medical terminology training and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one (1) year of recent, relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with others.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Competency in keyboarding and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with operating related equipment and utilizing various computer software applications.
  • Commitment to fostering reconciliation in Canada, in alignment with TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Understanding of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, along with knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.
