About the Role

The City of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Sponsorship Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Partnerships team, you will be responsible for securing significant revenue to enhance and grow the operational budget for key Divisional projects, events, and programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Revenue Generation: Develop and implement innovative sponsorship strategies to achieve desired revenue targets, including securing private sector cash sponsorships and government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Sponsorship Development: Negotiate and close significant sponsorships with key corporate decision-makers, develop final agreements and legal contracts, and ensure benefit fulfillment and contractual obligations.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and retain strategic relationships with corporate representatives, local businesses, politicians, and internal senior-level management.
  • Grant Research: Research foundations, corporate, and government grant opportunities and develop targeted prospecting lists to effectively align Corporate Canada with Divisional projects, events, and programs.
  • Team Leadership: Provide supervision and direction to staff to ensure the delivery of effective and quality service relating to the responsibilities of Sponsorship Economic Development & Culture Division.
  • Operational Management: Supervise the day-to-day operation of assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, and authorize and coordinate vacation and overtime requests.
Requirements
  • Education: Post-secondary education in special events, event management, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience: Considerable experience in securing major cash sponsorships and grants, benefits fulfillment, and client integration for event sponsorships, grants, and fundraising.
  • Skills: Highly developed client management skills, excellent partnership development and stewardship skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service skills, flexibility, and ability to lead, motivate, and supervise a team.
  • Software Skills: Highly developed MS Office Suite skills, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant government legislation, such as occupational health and safety, labour relations, and collective agreements.
