Chief Development Officer – AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Chief Development Officer plays a pivotal role in leading fundraising initiatives and implementing comprehensive strategies for revenue generation, including effective donor engagement. This position is essential for nurturing donor relationships, enhancing revenue streams, and amplifying the organization's visibility and impact within the community.

The AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter is dedicated to fostering a community where every child and youth can access opportunities that promote their growth and development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Major Gifts

  • Formulate annual and multi-year fundraising strategies and oversee their execution in collaboration with the team.
  • Ensure that all fundraising objectives, timelines, and milestones are met and monitored.
  • Design and implement a donor acquisition strategy that includes identifying and qualifying prospects, engaging, cultivating, and soliciting support.
  • Assess and enhance the current annual giving program, focusing on donor retention and growth across corporate, foundation, and individual streams.
  • Oversee and expand donor stewardship and recognition initiatives to strengthen relationships with supporters.
  • Develop and maintain a personal portfolio of mid-level and major donors.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create tailored communications and marketing materials that enhance donor engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, fiscal, and legal standards in all fundraising activities, adhering to the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Build relationships with philanthropy professionals to stay informed about fundraising trends and best practices.

Leadership and Strategic Direction

  • Manage a fundraising team, providing mentorship, performance evaluation, and professional development opportunities.
  • Offer strategic insights for events, maximizing fundraising potential and ensuring alignment with overall strategies.
  • Contribute to the Senior Leadership team, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals outlined in the organization's plans.
  • Support the Executive Director in engaging Board members in donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy organization-wide by developing strategies that highlight the importance of fundraising.
  • Work with internal teams to integrate EDI values into fundraising strategies.

Financial Oversight and Analysis

  • Develop and manage the fundraising department budget, reporting on progress towards key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with data management personnel to create a philanthropy scorecard for quarterly reporting.
  • Assist in tracking return on investment for fundraising events and campaigns, providing insights for ongoing optimization.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a relevant field. A CFRE designation is advantageous.
  • Fundraising Expertise: At least five years of experience in fundraising with a proven track record of successful program planning and execution.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership capabilities with experience in strategic planning and team inspiration.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on donor-centered storytelling.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Networking Abilities: Proficient in building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Commitment to EDI: Proven experience in engaging with diverse communities and advocating for inclusive practices.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong prioritization and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Technological Proficiency: Advanced skills in Office 365 and donor database systems.
  • Knowledge of Trends: Passion for staying informed about fundraising and nonprofit sector trends.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Full-time permanent position with a standard workweek of 37.5 hours.
  • Salary range of $60,000 – $78,000 based on experience and qualifications.
  • Opportunity for remote work one day per week.
